Oh the Super Bowl... Another year of football and yet another win for the Patriots. Ugh is all I'll say. But on the YESS side of things, we had a great week again. Haha!
Monday we saw a massive snow storm that kept almost all kids at home with their families. Those of us that braved (and survived!) the nasty roads played games and got to know each other really well. Even though we all had to be there, I'd say we all agreed it was a fun day!
Tuesday was Apple Pie for my two classes who were a little behind (went great again!) and a trivia competition between mentor/mentees in my other three. The kids LOVED this. Thanks Alex!! Winning pairs won food, yes again and was savored so much that while eating cookies, one student says "This tastes like sweet victory.". Haha. He was pretty happy he won. It was NOT an easy competition.
Wednesday was spent introducing Belief Systems with a 'musical walk' around the room to open up the idea that our believes are deeply ingrained in what we think and feel. The kids wrote down what came to mind when they saw words like "failure, math, family'. The idea of limiting and empowering beliefs was hinted at with many students ideas. We'll dive more into those ideas this week.
We spent tutoring time in the school library this week and it went great! It was nice to get out of our little windowless room and utilize a great resource our new librarian has set up for us.
Friday was exhaustingly fun! We played Cupside Down in the gym and phew, were the kids tired! Two teams compete to keep their cups either up or down and the team with the most cups their way after three minutes wins! The winning teams then got to deal out a punishment for the losing teams. We saw a lot of burpees and laps being run. 7th hour mentors made the losing mentees jump in the snow!
I even played with my 6th hour and after losing (what?!) I ran five laps and was ready to go home after that class. Ha. So much fun.
Let's hope the snow predicted this week doesn't cause problems for our class again! Welcome to Colorado. Haha. Have a great week!
